Packing for the hospital can feel overwhelming. Do you need three outfits or ten? What does the hospital actually provide? As a mom-owned business, we have been there, and we know that when it comes to packing for labor, less is often more.
We have curated the ultimate list of essentials—focused on comfort, function, and those precious first photos—so you can zip up your bag with confidence.
For Mom: Labor & Recovery
The hospital will provide diapers, wipes, and a basic hat. You only need to pack for the "Going Home" moment.
- The "Better-Than-Hospital" Gown
Skip the scratchy, used hospital gown. Our Labor Gowns have snaps for epidurals and IVs, but feel like your favorite pajamas.
- Nursing-Friendly Sleepwear
Pack a soft Nursing Robe and tank for recovery. You want easy access for those frequent checks and feeds.
- Toiletries
Hospitals are incredibly dry! Do not forget lip balm, a hair tie, travel shampoo, and your favorite moisturizer.
- Cozy Extras
A pair of grip socks (hospital floors are cold!) and an extra-long phone charger are non-negotiable.
For Baby: The Essentials
The hospital will provide diapers, wipes, and a basic hat. You only need to pack for the "Going Home" moment.
- Going Home Outfit (Bamboo Zip)
While gowns are great for the crib, you need a Bamboo Zip Footie for the ride home. The separate legs allow you to buckle the car seat harness safely and easily without fabric bunching up.
- Photo-Ready Swaddle
Pack a matching swaddle blanket for that first official car seat photo. It doubles as a nursing cover or light blanket for the ride home (tucked over the buckled straps).
- Car Seat (Installed)
This is the most important item! Ensure your base is properly installed in the car weeks before your due date.
- Pediatrician’s Contact Info
The hospital will ask for this information when you are admitted, so have it saved in your phone or written down
For The Support Person
Partners often forget to pack for themselves! Make sure they have a small bag ready too.
- Snacks & Reusable Water Bottle
Cafeteria hours can be limited. Pack protein bars, crackers, and hydration drinks to keep energy up during labor.
- A Hoodie or Sweater
Labor rooms are often kept very cold for the laboring mom. Your partner will appreciate an extra layer.
- Change of Clothes
Fresh clothes and basic toiletries (toothbrush/deodorant) will make an overnight stay much more comfortable.
What to Leave at Home
Save space in your bag by skipping these items:
- Diapers & Wipes: The hospital has plenty.
- Jewelry & Valuables: It is best to leave expensive items safely at home.
- Stiff Clothing: You will want soft, stretchy fabrics for the ride home—leave the jeans for later.
