Female fertility signs – Stop! You’re making me blush
Trying to conceive is as much as about timing as it is about luck, which means you need to be aware of when you’re at your most fertile. Figuring that out isn’t that hard though, so we’ve listed some common and easy signs to help figure out your fertility cycle. Not everyone goes through each of them, but if you’re experiencing enough of them, it’s your body’s way of telling you you’re fertile.
-Cramping: Not unlike period cramps, some women experience cramps before their bodies are ovulating. These cramps aren’t as painful or as long as proper period cramps, but they’re a good indication of when you’re due to ovulate. Generally they’ll only be felt on one side of you, but this isn’t universal.
- Tender breasts: In the lead up to ovulating, your body starts making more progesterone. One of the side effects is that your breasts can feel tender, similar to what they would feel like before your period. While this is a pretty obvious thing to pick up on some women find that their breasts only feel tender after ovulating, not before, so keep that in mind when tracking your cycle.
- Increased sex drive: One of nature’s most basic ways of telling you you’re fertile is through your libido. Though it’s not exact, around the time of your ovulation you’ll find you’ll have a stronger sex drive than otherwise. When you think about it, what’s the point in being able to make babies if you’re not in the mood for actually making babies?
- Greater lubrication: Part of the above, but not quite the same thing, is that you’ll generally feel yourself being more lubricated and wet around the time of your ovulation. This doesn’t just mean during sex, but during the day you’ll generally more wet than you otherwise would. It’s all part of the extra hormones flooding through your body.
- Cervical discharge: This is the most consistent way of keeping track of your fertility cycle. So keep an eye on your vaginal discharges over the course of your menstrual cycle. As you near ovulation, your discharges will go from sticky, cloudy or simply undetectable into a more stretchy and clear substance. It’s generally compared to egg whites, so keep that in mind when you’re checking it out.
- Cravings: Ever find yourself craving something around the same point of a month? Those cravings are part of your fertility cycle. They’re not something everyone experiences, but if you’re feeling that desire for your usual cravings (typically sugar or calorie related), it means you’re probably going to be ovulating soon.
Summary: Trying to figure out when you’re fertile? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We’ve assembled a list of the most common and non-invasive ways to figure out when you’re approaching the most fertile times of your cycle. You’ll probably recognize some or even all of them, but figuring out how they relate to your ovulation is important.
